The house at 4722 North LaPorte, just south of Lawrence (and technically in the Portage Park community area) is one of a row of workers' cottages built along the west side of the street in 1946. The modest size of the house reflects the scarcity of the war years, as does the fact that it and all its neighbors were constructed of "common brick", of the type usually concealed or relegated to back walls.

4722 LaPorte has two small dormers above the first floor, one of two designs built on the block. The other features a simpler front-facing gable. Brick colors vary, but they're all common brick. These days, all the lawns on the block are immaculate.

Sandwiched between railroad tracks, and now the Kennedy Expressway, these houses once looked across the street at what must have been an industrial facility. Today, instead, they are towered over by banal infill development whose only visual interest arises from rhythmic repetition.
